Host: Taxon infects bacteria.
Genome: Viruses with linear double stranded genomic DNA.
Morphology: Virions usually not tailed; head (may produce tail-like tubes upon adsorption or after chloroform treatment); isometric; not enveloped. Nucleocapsids 63 nm in diameter. Symmetry icosahedral. Tail not contractile; 60 nm long; 10 nm wide. Surface projections of nucleocapsid distinct, or not present; 20 nm long spikes; restricted to (their vertices). Shell of virion with two layers (a smooth, rigid, 3 nm thin outer shell and a flexible, 5-6 nm thick inner lipoprotein vesicle).
