Description
The adjoining labs of W. Allen Miller and Steve Whitham anticipate funding for postdocs to engineer insect-transmitted plant viruses to deliver transgenes into plants. Work requires dissecting gene expression mechanisms, optimizing RNA viral genomes to replicate and express multiple large cargo proteins. One project involves virus discovery by deep sequencing. This is part of a large team project with multiple labs and universities.

Skills
Excellent molecular cloning skills.
Strong understanding of, and ability to investigate, plant virus gene expression mechanisms.
Plant cell culture and protoplasts.
Bioinformatics expertise.
Organizational and communication skills.
Must be able to work with a team to meet milestones on a strict timely basis.
Expertise in aphid transmission is a plus.
