The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University (ISU), located in Ames, Iowa, is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, clinical track assistant or associate professor in the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine (VDPAM), with a primary commitment in the Serology Section of the ISU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL).

Professional practice involves developing, improving, adapting, troubleshooting, validating, and monitoring the performance of immunodiagnostic assays of high importance to ISU VDL stakeholders. The incumbent will be fully embedded within ISU VDL’s Serology Section working closely on a daily basis with ISU VDL faculty and staff to deliver world-class diagnostic services, create and share new information with students and stakeholders. It is expected the incumbent will present case studies, diagnostic assay development updates, and research results to students, veterinarians, scientists, and diagnosticians at appropriate local, state, national and international meetings. Research responsibilities include conducting research to validate experimental diagnostic assays and technologies; fully characterize immune responses and population immunity; evaluate comparative diagnostic assay performance; and advance stakeholder understanding of effective disease surveillance, control, and/or elimination strategies. Solicitation of extramural funding is expected to aid these collaborative research and development efforts. The incumbent’s time committed to teaching will include active participation in case-based teaching of professional veterinary courses (VDPAM 456 Veterinary Diagnostic Lab Methods) and rotations (VDPAM 455 Diagnostic Laboratory Practicum), training graduate students, and contribution to other courses as agreed upon with the Chair.
