Position Summary
Moderna is seeking a scientist/senior scientist with experience in virology to design, develop and perform various assays to characterize the efficacy and/or mode of action of vaccines or therapeutic mRNAs. The incumbent is expected to fully design, conduct, interpret and communicate complex experiments utilizing previously encountered procedures as well as procedures based on new principles and technologies.


The incumbent will design, develop and perform assays to determine the antiviral activity in vitro and/or in vivo elicited by various vaccine or therapeutic candidate mRNAs.
Design and conduct assays to determine the most appropriate molecular target(s) against different viruses.
Design and execute laboratory experiments and monitor adaptive and innate immune responses to various candidate antigens in partnership with Immunology team members. Qualify reagents used to perform necessary assays.
Conduct assays relevant to the development and qualification of methods for measuring responses to vaccines and therapeutic mRNAs in pre-clinical studies
Support animal modeling in candidate mRNA evaluation. Interpret and summarize experimental data.
To present experimental results at group meetings, project meetings and department meetings.


M.S. with +10 years of relevant experience in virology, microbiology or related discipline or Ph.D. with +3 years of relevant experience in virology, microbiology or immunology fields.
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in virology is essential. Experience with vaccinology highly desired
Proficiency in culturing a variety of viruses, Molecular Biology Immunology, Tissue culture including, preparation and quantitation of viral stocks, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, ELISA/ELISPOT, neutralization assays and aseptic procedures.
The individual must possess excellent data management and verbal/written communication skills, have ability to design and perform experiments, evaluate and process data, present results in a clear, concise and timely manner, and prepare final written reports.
