HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support the Iordanskiy laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology and Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute (AFRRI) at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to AFRRI & USUHS. The Postdoc will be responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team.

Responsibilities

1. Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing biochemical and cell biological experiments related to a new research project entitled "Effect of radiation-induced cellular stress on integrated retroviral genomes".

2. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.

3. Performs laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which will involve specialized procedures including: manipulations with cell lines and primary cells (transfection, transduction with viral vectors) editing of cellular genomes using CRISPR technology, RNAi technique, as well as basic cell culture technique, nucleic acid extraction/purification/transfection, virus and exosome purification, immunoprecipitation, including chromatin immunoprecipitation, quantitative PCR and RT-PCR, transcriptome analysis, proteomics, Western blotting, molecular cloning and site-directed mutagenesis, immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy, and other techniques as needed/required by the laboratory.

4. Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments.

5. Processes and interprets experimental data, and prepares accurate and timely research reports.

6. Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals.

7. Assists with training laboratory staff as needed.

8. Maintains cleanliness of laboratory areas and performs routine maintenance tasks on laboratory equipment.

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Subject knowledge and expertise in molecular biology, virology (focus on retrovirology is preferable), and cell biology as reflected by publications in appropriate peer-reviewed scientific journals. Competence in all routine areas of modern cellular and molecular biology including mammalian cell culture, cell transfection, recombinant DNA technology, and immunochemical methods.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: PhD in Molecular & Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Pharmacology, or a related discipline

Minimum Experience: 0-2 years

Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting; intricate work with hands; carrying of light and moderately heavy laboratory equipment

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: May provide guidance to laboratory staff

Work Environment: Laboratory environment; may involve working with biohazardous materials; may require working evenings and weekends
