The PhD student will work on animal models to manipulate gene expression in hypothalamic neurons and microglia by means of viral assisted approaches or CreERT-loxp recombination approaches. Metabolic phenotyping of the animal models will be applied. Cell signaling studies will be performed in cultured primary neurons and microglia. Sophisticated imaging processes, in particularly analytic 3D reconstruction of cellular compartments, will be embedded in all in vivo and in vitro experiments. The translational part of this project in human brain tissue will be teamed up with other PhD students and postdocs in the research group.

We are looking for a PhD student who is highly passionate about science. The candidate should have: 1) obtained a master degree in neuroscience; 2) experience with working with animal (mice or rat) models; 3) experience in working with bright-field and fluorescent microscopy. Experience in working with stereotactic instruments for brain injection in small animals and affinity with (neuro)endocrinology is a recommendation.

In addition, the research group is very international, therefore being fluent in English will be highly appreciated.
