Description
Be part of Team Maize Hopper, a multidisciplinary project to modify crop genomes using engineered viruses delivered by insect vectors. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Dept. Plant Pathology, Ohio State University – Ohio Agriculture Research and Development Center in Wooster, OH to: 1) develop infectious cDNA clones for the maize-infecting rhabdovirus, maize fine streak virus (MFSV); 2) develop methods for ‘launching’ viral cDNAs; 3) express reporter and CRISPR/Cas constructs from the viral cDNA; 5) modify viral cDNA to optimize construct stability, inserted sequence expression and insect transmission, while reducing virus-induced symptoms; and 4) publish results in peer-reviewed journals. The Postdoc will be mentored by Drs. Peg Redinbaugh, Guo-Liang Wang and Lucy Stewart, and will develop skill in development and engineering of infectious clones for genome modification. The Postdoc will have opportunities to interact and work with a multidisciplinary team of virologists, vector biologists, entomologists and plant scientists at OSU, USDA-ARS, North Carolina State Univ. and Oklahoma State Univ.

Skills
A Ph.D. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Plant Pathology or a closely related field required. Requires successful completion of a criminal background check. The ideal candidate has expertise in developing and manipulating infectious virus cDNAs, optimizing expression of foreign sequences from viral cDNAs, data analysis and reporting. A desire to work on a strong multidisciplinary research team, and/or experience with engineering negative sense RNA viruses is a plus.
