The Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry at North Carolina State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position, at the Assistant Professor rank, in the broad area of plant abiotic stress with an emphasis on metabolic responses. The position will be 80% research and 20% teaching. The department has undergraduate and graduate programs conferring BS, MS, and PhD degrees in biochemistry. Current research areas include biochemistry and molecular biology of gene expression, plant biochemistry, virology, protein structure-function relationships, redox biology and metabolic control mechanisms (

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous and independently funded research program centered on transformative research in plant abiotic stress-induced metabolic responses. Aspects of research may include metabolic regulation in response to abiotic stress (primary and secondary metabolism), maintenance of homeostasis during stress, post-transcriptional regulation, post-translational modification and protein stability, regulation of protein activity and location, and epigenetic changes responding to abiotic stress. This position will have opportunities to collaborate with biochemistry faculty who have expertise in plant abiotic stress responses, as well as the numerous research programs in plant biology that are focused on plant abiotic stress responses at the metabolic level, including programs in Plant and Microbial Biology, Crop and Soil Sciences, Horticulture, Plant Pathology and Entomology, Forestry, and the Plants for Human Health Institute. The position will complement and benefit from the newly launched Plant Science Initiative, an innovative multidisciplinary systems-oriented research center that will become the headquarters for solutions to global challenges in agriculture.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a related field, a minimum of two years’ postdoctoral or equivalent experience, and excellent qualifications in research and education.

Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, three-page research statement incorporating a vision for developing a strong research program at NC State, brief teaching philosophy and statement of teaching interests, including potential course offerings, and contact information for three professional references online at (position # 00061931).
