Job Summary

Postdoctoral Scientist – Virology & Immunology

The candidate will contribute to ongoing research to study the role of host factors in supporting and controlling infection of cells by Ebola virus and depending on interest, other hemorrhagic fever viruses. Identification of host factors will be performed by high-throughput screening of siRNA, CRISPR and small molecules. Mechanism will then be tested by molecular biology and high resolution microscopy methods or other methods that the candidate will develop. Advancement of findings toward therapies is strongly encouraged. The candidate will have an interest in developing their own career in virology and treatment strategies. Duties will include training and working at BSL-4 with the viruses and their use in analysis of cell invasion. This position will report to Dr. Robert Davey.

Requirements for this position are:

Ph.D. or DVM with specialty in microbiology, biochemistry or cell biology
Must pass FBI background check required for work with select agents and be able to work in a BSL4 laboratory
Evidence of experience through first author publications in peer reviewed journals.
Good communication and critical thinking skills

Three to four years’ experience working with viruses with molecular biology techniques or cell biology approaches to understand cell protein-complex function
Experience working in BSL3 or BSL4 environments
This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position. Texas Biomed business hours are Monday through Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Texas Biomed is committed to a drug-free workplace. Pre-employment drug screen is required.
