Description
The Department of Biological Sciences at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Molecular Virology starting August 20th, 2018. We seek broadly trained applicants studying viruses of eukaryotes or prokaryotes with a broad range of molecular techniques. The ability to teach virology at the undergraduate and M.S. level is required. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching, research, and service missions of the department. The duties include developing and teaching courses in virology and contributing to teaching cell/molecular and microbiology core courses and graduate seminars, developing and sustaining an independent externally funded research program in molecular virology that involves undergraduate and graduate (M.S.) students and leads to peer-reviewed publications, and participating in service to the department, college, university, and community. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience.

Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in virology or a related life science discipline with postdoctoral research experience using a broad range of molecular approaches to studying viruses of eukaryotes or prokaryotes;
A record of research productivity; demonstrated ability to seek external research funding;
Demonstrated potential for effective teaching of virology;
Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Desired/Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of two years of postdoctoral research experience in molecular virology;
A record of extramural research support;
Prior teaching experience at the college level;
Demonstrated potential for effective teaching of courses spanning different levels of the biology curriculum;
Demonstrated interest in increasing the participation of underrepresented students in STEM fields.
