A position is available to participate in studies funded by the Johns Hopkins Center of Excellence in Influenza Research and Surveillance. This position will involve investigating sex differences in immune responses to novel universal influenza vaccine platforms in mouse models. This position will also involve the use of human serum samples to study humoral immune responses to diverse influenza A viruses. These studies will require basic knowledge of virological and immunological techniques. Areas of focus will include: 1) development of universal influenza vaccine constructs; 2) assessment of the effects of sex on immune responses to universal influenza vaccines; 2) analysis of the relationship between sex hormones and immune responses to influenza vaccines; and 3) dissection of the pathways mediating sex-specific variation in host immune responses to influenza vaccines.

Basic laboratory skills, including animal handling, sterile technique, and sample preparation is required. Knowledge of flow cytometry, ELISA based methods, virus titering and growth, and animal surgery and husbandry is preferred. Writing and oral presentation skills are also a must along with an appreciation of reading literature and thinking creatively.
