The laboratory of Dr. Joyce Jose at The Pennsylvania State University seeks a postdoctoral researcher to study virus-host interactions involved in alphavirus and flavivirus replication and assembly. The successful candidate will investigate the molecular mechanisms and host pathways utilized by Chikungunya, West Nile and Zika virus using cutting edge approaches in virology and high resolution live-cell imaging. The overarching goal of this work is to understand the formation and spatiotemporal dynamics of virus induced structures and their roles in virus replication, cell-to-cell transport and neurovirulence. Dr. Jose belongs to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. The Jose lab also participates in the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics (CIDD) and Molecular Cellular and Integrative Biosciences graduate program. The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the main campus of Penn State University (University Park, PA), is outfitted with several exceptional core facilities, including The Eva J. Pell ABSL3 Laboratory for Advanced Biological Research. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, virology or a related field with strong work ethic, organizational skills, and keen attention to detail. Prior experience in alphavirus or flavivirus research, protein purification, structural biology, electron microscopy and super-resolution microscopy is highly desired. Motivated candidates with strong publication records, regardless of their specific area of expertise will also be considered. Additional experience, but not required, includes work involving BSL-3 pathogens, mosquitoes, and mice. The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to lead independent research, as well as contribute directly to the collaborative research efforts and overall research goals of the group. The successful candidate will be offered competitive salary, benefits and significant professional development opportunities. Interested individuals should upload a personal statement highlighting applicant’s background, long-term goals and areas of common interest, current CV, and names and contact information for three references. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
