Basic qualifications:
- University degree Ph.D. or equivalent acquired through experience
- 3 years of research in laboratory, ideally in virology

Preferred qualifications:
- Strong technical skills and experience with cell culture and virology
- English and French languages skills both verbal and written
- Flexible, autonomous, proactive and assertive
- Strong analytical skills
- Good team player
- People management experience with ability to lead a team of 3-5 technicians

Job purpose:

- Work in a challenging network within QC matrix organization and other GSK departments
- Lead the development and the validation of test to be used in QC virology
- Transversal interactions with other teams in QC Biology (Virology, Molecular Biology), with the research department and external collaborators

Key responsabilities:

- Manage a team of technicians and external collaborators in charge of assay development and validation
- Analyse /interpret results, and propose next steps
- Write development reports, SOPs and validation documents related to the assays
- Report the results to N+1 in a comprehensive oral or written form after extensive check of the quality of raw data
- Guarantee good communication within the team and with the management
- Responsible to cascade and explain messages from the management to his/her team.
- Make decisions on technology, quality, resources for his/her project /team
- Under supervision of N+1, make appropriate assessment of risk and escalation (compliance, business…)
- Consider guidance from regulatory authorities about assay selection, development, validation.
- Guarantee the application and maintenance of the cGMP (standard procedures, audits, training, method validation)
- Seek new technology development and implement new technologies intended to improve assay performances (technology watch)
- Use and apply his/her expertise for the remediation
- Maintain and develop the performance and expertise of his/her team
- Proactively propose testing improvement in the frame of his/her laboratory and guarantee the appropriate review of the scientific knowledge in virology
- Provide support to other GSK Vaccines Department (Manufacturing, RA,..)
- Provide technical expertise and knowledge to external laboratories for test transfer and data delivery with the same timing and quality standards as in-house. This requires in depth knowledge of the tests developed inside QC Biology
- Creates informal personal networks with key contacts within own area
- Manage assays transfer
- Personal implication in lab activities
- Anticipates the need of resources in his/her team

The QA Belgium departments manage all product quality related activities in industrial operations in Belgium, including regulatory compliance.
