Columbia's Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute (Zuckerman Institute) brings together an extraordinary group of world-class scientists into the Jerome L. Greene Science Center, a state-of-the-art facility, to transform our understanding of the brain and mind.

The Institute seeks to hire a Staff Associate to support the Virology Scientific Service Center. Through the exchange of ideas and active collaborations with pioneering researchers, the Staff Associate will assist the Associate Research Scientist in developing and sharing advanced molecular tools, such as AAV and rabies viruses for neuroscience research.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- generates AAV virus stocks with hands-on work in the AAV production for high titer final products using iodixanol and cesium chloride methods; assists with inventory of AAV and rabies stocks, plasmid DNA and equipment maintenance.
- performs mammalian tissue culture and generates seed stock for cell lines with full QC.
- Prior experience with qPCR, SDS-PAGE and infectious titer assays. Additionally, the incumbent should possess prior experience with cryogenic storage of cell and viral stocks, ultra-centrifugation, molecular cloning and viral vector development. Lenti and retro virus production knowledge is necessary.

Candidate must be comfortable with repetitive pipetting, working in biosafety hoods for extended periods of time, standing at the bench for extended periods of time.

Must possess a strong background and prior experience in AAV production, rabies delta G production and viral injections in vivo. The candidate should have a strong publication record, and excellent communication and writing skills as well as strong leadership skills and demonstrable scientific independence.

A Bachelor's degree, including a minimum of four (4) years of related experience in the field.

Candidate must possess a combination of experience and expertise in this field of research and support the use of basic science techniques aimed at answering relevant research questions surrounding the study of the mind and brain and vice-versa. Prior experience in virology research labs or viral vector core employment is required.

Must be able to work flexible hours on weekdays and some short periods of weekend work as needed.
