Columbia University's Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute (Zuckerman Institute) supports interdisciplinary neuroscience research and discovery by scientists and scholars across the university and promises to be the most comprehensive institute for brain science. Located in a state-of-the-art facility, world class researchers are brought together to transform our understanding of the brain and mind.

The Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of a Research Staff Assistant. Reporting directly to the Director of Virology, the candidate will provide tissue culture and molecular biology support to the Virology Scientific Services at the Zuckerman Institute.

The Research Staff Assistant will maintain transformed cell lines, inventory and prepare incoming plasmid DNA materials and assist with day to day lab operations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

*Perform daily Mammalian Tissue Culture or transformed cell lines.
*Assist in AAV preparation and quality control assays.
*Order and stock reagents and lab supplies, Accept deliveries and update inventory with location of stock items.
*Update electronic inventory systems (virus, plasmid and glycerol stocks)
*Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.
Minimum Qualifications for Grade
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant         A Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Biology, or other related science and at least 1.5 years of related experience is required. Prior experience in virus production is highly desired.

The candidate should have a strong work ethic, and excellent communication and writing skills. Candidate must be able to work for 2-4 hours at a time in a Biosafety hood and have availability for scheduled weekend work hours.

The ideal candidate must possess sound judgment with a collaborative style that fosters teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization.
