The Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), Office of Vaccines Research and Review (OVRR), Division of Viral Products (DVP) is recruiting to fill a Senior Staff Fellow or Visiting Scientist position in the Laboratory of Vector Borne Diseases. The selected candidate will serve as Principal Investigator (PI) responsible for developing an independent research program applicable to vector-borne viral diseases with an emphasis on pathogenesis and immunity. Members of DVP are actively engaged in research on a variety of viral pathogens as well as live and inactivated vaccines. The DVP is located at the FDA White Oak campus in Silver Spring, Maryland and is part of the CBER research program, which includes more than 100 principal investigators. These investigators lead research teams in the fields of virology, bacteriology and gene therapy employing state-of-the-art techniques to address critical public health issues as part of the CBER mission. In addition to BSL-3, ABSL-3 and animal care facilities, the newly built laboratory complex at White Oak includes core facilities, such as flow cytometry and confocal and electron microscopy. In addition to laboratory research, the candidate will perform regulatory review of licensed and experimental vaccines and novel treatment modalities.

This position will be filled through the Service Fellowship program. No Federal experience is required. Appointment does not confer any entitlement to a position in the competitive service, and there is no entitlement to Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) appeals rights.

Official transcripts required; Ph.D. in a biomedical or related science or equivalent doctoral degree (M.D., D.V.M., etc.) required.

Candidates must have at least 3 years post-doctoral research experience in virology, immunology, or a related field. He/she must have demonstrated state-of-the-art research interests related to virology, immunology of viral diseases, or viral pathogenesis with direct relevance to the development and evaluation of new viral vaccines. The candidate should have an outstanding publication record of research productivity, exceptional written and oral communication skills, with experience in scientific critique and clear evidence of leadership potential.
