Description
A postdoctoral positions is immediately available to study the molecular biology of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in Dr. Haitao Guo’s lab in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Indiana University School of Medicine at Indianapolis.

HBV is the causative agent for both acute and chronic hepatitis B, the latter is affecting more than 300 million people worldwide without an effective cure available. Among viruses, HBV is quite unique in terms of the virus life cycle and virus-host interactions. One of our major basic research projects is to elucidate the molecular mechanism of formation and maintenance of HBV episomal DNA minichromosome (termed the covalently closed circular (ccc) DNA) and its transcriptional regulations. On the other hand, cccDNA is the basis for persistent HBV infection and the elusiveness of a cure even after extended treatment with currently approved antiviral drugs. Thus, we are also developing cell-based cccDNA reporter systems and using them to screen inhibitors that directly target cccDNA stability and/or functions, followed by mechanism of action study and preclinical drug development. The postdoc will have opportunity to study the basic and/or translational HBV biology. For more information about the research in Dr. Guo’s lab, please visit https://medicine.iu.edu/faculty/23046/guo-haitao/

Qualified applicants should have a Ph.D degree and strong background in molecular and cell biology and biochemistry, experience in virology, DNA replication and repair, epigenetic transcriptional regulation, or antiviral assay development and drug discovery is a plus. A CV should be sent to haitguo@iupui.edu for consideration.
