About Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research:
At Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), the global research organization of Novartis, we are committed to discovering innovative medicines to cure disease and improve human health. We aim to hire the best trained scientists from academia, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals and we cultivate an environment for drug discovery science where innovation is rewarded. It is ultimately the talent of the individuals we recruit that determines our success and our state-of-the-art technologies and resources that enable individuals to realize this success.

NIBR conducts research globally with sites in Emeryville, California; Cambridge, MA; East Hanover, NJ; Basel, Switzerland; Horsham, UK; and Shanghai, China. Our Emeryville location focuses on drug discovery and early development for Infectious Disease and Oncology Disease Areas and is actively recruiting for a variety of positions across disciplines such as Bacteriology, Virology, Oncology, Chemistry, and other areas that support our scientific discovery.

About the Infectious Diseases Area
The Infectious Diseases Area (IDA) seeks to discover and develop treatments to address unmet medical needs in the management and cure of bacterial and viral infections. The Virology group currently focuses on infections caused by hepatitis C virus, influenza virus, respiratory syncytial virus, human cytomegalovirus and other viruses of the immunocompromised host. The Antibacterials group investigates novel therapies for multi-resistant bacterial infections caused by Gram negative and positive pathogens.

NIBR is currently expanding Infectious Diseases research in Emeryville, California at the heart of Northern California’s thriving biomedical community. With the leadership of Don Ganem, M.D., one of the world’s leading virologists, our new ID team will focus on identifying and exploiting novel molecular mechanisms for the interruption of pathogen replication and viability. In addition, we hope to break new ground in the search for novel viruses that might contribute to other human diseases, including tumors and autoimmune disorders. Our new ID headquarters in Emeryville will be fueled by a culture that combines the best of academia and biotech with the backing of a global organization - Novartis.
